What is it like being on a mission?

This is a post from one our first missions. I thought it was good to keep...

So people ask what being on a mission is like and I have said many things. Yesterday was a great example of what being on a mission is like.

I was asked to do a sign that would be on a building for quite some time. Sounds daunting doesn't it? It was for me. I would have never agreed except, I'm on a mission! So I said yes, thinking the Lord would help me and bless my efforts.

Then thoughts came to my mind of how to accomplish that daunting task. I felt so confident that I knew exactly what I should do. I went to office Depot and stood in a line behind a man. When no one would help us I tapped him on the shoulder and asked him if that was the right line. He said yes and pointed at my name tag. He talked to me and eventually we invited him to meet with the missionaries. He agreed, the missionaries called him and he is coming to our Branch!

As it turns out, we were in the wrong store, in the wrong line, but we were exactly where the Lord wanted us to be, doing exactly what the Lord wanted us to do.

We had a similar experience when we went to Jacksonville. We had a waitress that began asking us questions. I had the opportunity to talk to her one-on-one and she committed to setting a goal of going to the temple. Mind you, she is not even a member of the church! She was such a precious person to all of us!

So that is my take on it. Being a missionary is clearing our schedules completely and allowing the Lord to take us where we need to be, to affect that people we need to and most important, being willing to open our mouths and declare our testimony to others! It actually has been quite amazing to see the Lord's work through my daily schedule.

I am so grateful for this opportunity to serve my God who has served me all my life!
